Statistics and figures

Almost half of all  pigs born in the Netherlands are exported live as piglets or finishers. Most of these animals go to Germany. The Netherlands and Germany together form a cross-border pig producing region. The Dutch pig farmers specialise more in piglet production while their German counterparts focus on raising finishers.

Besides pigs and piglets, the Netherlands also exports sheep, goats and dairy cows.

The Netherlands not only exports animals but also imports large numbers of young calves. These new born calves come from various countries. Because the Netherlands has a relatively large dairy cow sector, we also specialise in raising calves for veal production.
